Cervical cancer and genital wart vaccines

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancer in women.  Screening for cervical cancer is very simple; this is done via a Pap Smear.

This test is recommended for all ladies who are sexually active and should be done on a regular basis until they reach 69 years old.

 

There are 2 vaccines in the market currently:

a) Gardasil (protects against serotype 16, 18,  31 and 33)

– Protects against cervical cancer and anal/genital warts

– 3 doses given at interval of 0 month, 2 month and 6 month

– can be taken by men to prevent against anal/genital warts

– can be given from age 9 and above

 

b) Cervarix (protects against serotype 16 and 18)

– 3 doses given at interval of 0 month, 1 month and 6 month

– can be given from age 9 and above
